June 1.The British government announced on Monday, that, as it prepares to withdraw from Afghanistan, it will offer about 3,000 more Afghans who worked with British troops the chance to resettle in the UK. (InfoMigrants)

June 3.  The EU will build a steel wall between Greece and Turkey. An armoured truck equipped with a sound cannon firing blast after blast of deafening noise, comparable to the volume of a jet fighter, will be deployed to prevent migrants from reaching Greece. (InfoMigrants_fr)

June 3.  Attempts to cross the Channel have increased in the first four months of 2021 and reached a record of 568 arrivals in four days at the end of May. In the south of England, reception centres for migrants are being overwhelmed. (InfoMigrants_fr)

June 4. Danish lawmakers have approved the establishment of a refugee reception center outside the country’s borders. The new law would force asylum-seekers to apply at the Danish border and then be flown to another country, likely in Africa, for processing. (InfoMigrants)

June 4.  A small boat was rescued on Thursday off the Canary Islands, 177 km southwest of Gran Canaria. The survivors come from sub-Saharan Africa. (infoMigrants_fr)

June 5. Hundreds of migrants are sheltering in northeast Serbia, hoping they can eventually cross the border to Romania. (InfoMigrants) 

June 7.  The child, named Artin, had been missing since 27 October. On that day, his family had tried to cross the Channel from France. His parents, brother and sister also died when their dinghy sank. (InfoMigrants_fr)

June 8. The SeaEye4  rescue ship has been detained in Sicily for violating safety rules. Sea-Eye says the real reason is that it rescued “too many people” and accused authorities of using inspections of ships like Sea-Eye 4 to prevent further rescue missions. (InfoMigrants)

June 8. Greece aims to send back asylum seekers from Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria and Bangladesh who arrive from Turkey. The government says they are not in danger in Turkey and have no need of protection in Europe.(InfoMigrants) 

June 8.  A boat that left Mauritania in the hope of reaching the Canary Islands was found off Trinidad-and-Tobago in the Caribbean at the end of May. Fourteen bodies in an advanced state of decomposition were discovered on board by fishermen. (InfoMigrants_fr)

June 8. The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, stressed that Libya, being a transit country, is incapable to stop the migration crisis on its own, but rather, it requires serious cooperation by the European Union (EU), with the source countries of the migrants. June 9. Farm laborers from Asia flock to Portugal known for its booming agricultural exports. The workers are often brought by gangs of traffickers and are forced to endure inhumane living conditions. (InfoMigrants)

June 9.  In the 1980’s, Denmark was a model for migration policy. However, the rise of populism in Europe has changed the situation and the Danish authorities have continued to strengthen the conditions of admission of asylum seekers. (InfoMigrants_fr)

June 9. The Lebanese authorities have expelled 15 Syrian refugees including both women and minors among a group of people who had tried in recent days to reach the coast of Cyprus but who were pushed back by Cypriot authorities. (InfoMigrants)

June 10. Lithuanian border guards patrol the border with Belarus near the small town Kapciamiestis on June 10. The number of people who have entered Lithuania from Belarus irregularly so far this year (some 160) has more than tripled compared to all of 2020. (InfoMigrants)

June 11. Five years after the creation of the “Cemetery of the Unknown”, the southern Tunisian coastal town of Zarzis has inaugurated its second migrant cemetery to honor the many people who have lost their lives while attempting the dangerous Mediterranean crossing to Europe. The Jardin d’Afrique, or Africa’s Garden, was designed and created by the Algerian artist Rachid Koraichi, and is already filling up at an alarming speed. (InfoMigrants)

June 11.  Several suicide attempts by migrant women have occurred in a detention centre in Tripoli. The women in this prison are victims of sexual violence committed by their guards. (InfoMgrants_fr)

June 13.  The boom in the agricultural sector in Portugal is driven by a labour force that comes from Asia via mafia networks. Some 30,000 foreign workers are working in the fields for miserable wages. (InfoMigrants_fr)

June 13. “When I arrived in Lampedusa, I thought maybe I would see one or two boats with migrants per day, but in the summer, perhaps 20 or more arrive every day, I just couldn’t believe it.” (InfoMigrants) 

June 14. 410 migrants (among whom 12 women and 99 minors) rescued by Doctors without Borders (MSF) are currently aboard the humanitarian rescue ship Geo Barents, after 7 rescue operations from Thursday till Saturday. 15 June. According to the Spanish newspaper El Faro de Ceuta, Moroccan workers were seen last week on the beach of Tarajal, at the southern border of Ceuta, laying barbed wire. (InfoMigrants_fr)
