284,000 Syrians displaced

Johan Leman, 2 January 2020

On 19 December the Assad-regime and Russia launched several attacks on the Idlib de-escalation
zone. On 2 January a counter-attack by the rebels followed. As a consequence of those events
284,000 civilians were forcibly displaced. Furthermore, at least 203 people were killed and 250
people got injured.
Turkey is trying to deny them access to its territory, because it already hosts some 3,700,000 Syrian
refugees.
Of course, people smugglers will be making good money from this situation. But how could the
refugees not turn to them?
