Youth and the Cops

16 February 2022

Molenbeek youngsters and the police: not the most obvious conversation partners, you might think. Both parties harbour a series of prejudices about one another. “Youth and the Cops” does bring them together around the table. The project is a collaboration between Jongerenwerking Foyer, Maison des Cultures and asbl MOVE and its aim is to get young people and police officers talking in an atmosphere of openness. Twelve young people and six police officers take part. For six months, weekly meetings will take place at various locations. For example, the young people have already visited the police station in Molenbeek. A visit by a lawyer is also on the agenda, as well as a role-playing game in which young people and police officers can put themselves in each other’s shoes for a while. The participants also worked out a charter on respect. “Youth and the Cops” runs until June 2022.
