Debate – Belgica Biladi

3 March 2026

On Saturday 7 March from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., a debate will take place at the Migration Museum as part of the Belgica Biladi exhibition.

In 1964, Belgium signed an agreement with Morocco to attract workers for industry. What began as labour migration grew, over several generations, into an active and lasting presence in Belgian society. Belgica Biladi brings this story together through contributions from more than twenty experts and countless memories. It is a shared Belgian-Moroccan history, told through lives, commitments and dreams — from tagine to chips.

The theme of the round table is the ‘Economic, political and social contributions of Belgian Moroccans’. Our speakers will share their insights and experiences in two panel discussions.

The first panel discussion will focus on economic, political and institutional contributions. The following experts will speak on this theme.

  • Ines Kalaï: Doctor in Political and Social Sciences;
  • Najat Arbib: Vice-President of the Court of First Instance of Liège and member of the High Council of Justice;
  • Taoufik Amzile: Consultant in entrepreneurship, member of various boards of directors, including LEAD Belgium and BECI.

The social, local and transnational contributions are the focus of the second panel discussion. We are pleased to welcome the following experts:

  • Younes El Montasser: deputy headteacher of Plurielle Karreveld secondary school and organiser of the youth march in Bruges;
  • Ahmed Ouâmara: headteacher of AMO Alhambra in Anderlecht.

Would you like to attend the panel discussions? Please confirm your attendance via museum@foyer.be.
Participation is free.
Location: Werkhuizenstraat 17, 1080 Molenbeek
