Bachir M’rabet is nominated for “Trophée Marocains du Monde

24 February 2025

Our colleague Bachir, coordinator of Foyer des Jeunes, has been nominated for a ‘Trophée Marocains du Monde’. This event highlights Moroccans around the world and honours them for their achievements in different categories: business, scientific research, arts and culture, sports, politics and civil society.

Bachir is nominated in the ‘Civil society’ category. He has been working for years for Foyer des Jeunes, a youth house where he himself came as a little boy. Bachir was born in Tangier and came to Belgium with his family in 1967. Although he grew up in Belgium, he noticed as he got older that there was still a lot of institutional inequality and discrimination. Wanting to fight against this, he decided to become an educator and wider, social worker. ‘It is a work close to my heart,‘ he says, “it was a kind of ‘calling’ that gives my life meaning. I have been doing it for 39 years, professionally, not to mention my volunteering and involvement when I was younger. So I have been immersed in the socio-cultural world for a long time and I never get tired of it.’

The organisation has a double aim: on the one hand, they want to showcase the talents of Moroccans around the world; on the other, they want to strengthen ties between Moroccans abroad and their countries of origin. According to the organisation itself, the awards are much more than a simple event, ‘they represent a moment of pride for the Moroccan community abroad. The event celebrates not only the excellence of individuals, but also the richness of Moroccan cultural diversity around the world.’ (source: Facebook)

This year will see the seventh edition, which will take place from 8 to 11 May in Marrakesh.

Congratulations Bachir! We are already very proud of you and your nomination!
