‘Growing older in your neighbourhood’ is a series of multilingual information sessions aimed at socially vulnerable elderly people, with or without a migrant background, or their informal carers.

During the six sessions, older people come together to reflect on their needs and wishes and to obtain information about services and organisations in their area that they can call on. This combination of meeting and information is greatly appreciated by the participants.

Each session is led by an expert on a specific theme and one or more intercultural mediators who provide support, cultural interpretation and language assistance where necessary. Since 2015, the ICB Service has organised regular editions, with a break during the coronavirus years. In 2024-25, this was done in collaboration with the Dar Al Amal women’s shelter, with a group of 12 women of Moroccan origin. Topics covered included health insurance, social activities in the neighbourhood, the residential care centre, and questions about the end of life.

‘Growing old in your neighbourhood’ is available free of charge to local social organisations. The package was originally developed in collaboration with the provinces of Limburg and East Flanders.
