SUMMARY:Exhibition at MMM: 'Dessine-moi un migrant'
DESCRIPTION:What is a migrant? What do you imagine when you hear this word? \nThe non-profit organization Service Social des Étrangers has launched a participatory project aimed at challenging the stereotypes associated with migrants. \nEvery year\, thousands of people move from one country to another to work\, live\, seek temporary or permanent refuge. These movements can lead to cultural\, linguistic\, religious differences for those who migrate. It is a challenging journey that is also tarnished by the numerous stereotypes attached to migrants. \nThis exhibition\, in the form of an interactive workshop\, aims to open a dialogue and reflect on what a migrant is. Everyone can participate and together create different representations. \nReservations :\n+32 2 609 55 61 museum@foyer.be

SUMMARY:Conference: Belgian colonial history\, dialogue between past and present

SUMMARY:Exhibition: "Notre Congo/Onze Kongo"
DESCRIPTION:The MigratieMuseumMigration will host from 18 April to 31 May 2023 an exhibition in collaboration with CEC-ONG “Notre Congo/Onze Kongo”. This exhibition focuses on the Belgian colonial propaganda. Through iconographic documents and videos from the colonial period\, the exhibition aims to understand how the different propaganda channels justified colonisation to the general public. The dissemination of images and slogans contributed to the shaping of a collective imagination still very present in our societies through monumental vestiges and stereotypes about the Congolese community and more broadly about Afro-descendants. This exhibition also aims to initiate a reflection on these representations. \nWe invite school groups to visit this exhibition as part of their history\, geography\, social science and language courses. Workshops and presentations will be held throughout the exhibition to allow for discussion with pupils and students. \nSelf-guided tours (without a guide) cost 5 euros per student. \nWorkshops cost 8 euros per participant. \nReservations: \n+32 2 609 55 61 museum@foyer.be

SUMMARY:Exhibition: Ecuatorianismos en Bélgica: 3 miradas
DESCRIPTION:With the exhibition “Ecuatorianismos en Bélgica”\, the artists want to tell us how their vision merges with their own migration story. All three live in Brussels and\, although they use different forms and techniques (painting\, engraving and performance)\, there is unity through the inspiration of “Ecuatorianismos”. \nThree Ecuadorian artistic eyes: Alejandra Bedón\, Marco Campaña Salgado and Diana Valarezo. Alejandra Bedón presents a series of engravings with a new perspective on botanical art. We feel the fascination for the germ of life in her rhythmic and harmonious compositions. Marco Campaña Salgado brings us vivid colours\, his paintings reflecting a magical fusion between the ancient and the contemporary and holding up a mirror to us. And Diana Valarezo on this occasion presents the performance “Rasgar las vestiduras”\, in which she uses embroidery to tell the universal story of migration. \nThis exhibition is a collaboration withEmbajada de España en BélgicaMisión del Ecuador ante la Unión Europea \nReservations:+32 2 609 55 61 museum@foyer.be

SUMMARY:musikaa made in.by molenbeek
DESCRIPTION:Klarafestival  returns to Molenbeek with an intergenrational project. Historically\, music has been passed on from generation to generation. Yet today\, grandchildren often don’t know the musical traditions in which their grandparents are rooted. Foyer brought children and young people from different schools in Brussels together to participate in an intergenerational project. Together\, they discover the musical traditions and traditional instruments that connect young and old. After this\, LaVallée and the House of Cultures and Social Cohesion brought professional musicians into the mix. The result is a cross-over project in which classical versus traditional\, and popular versus modern\, blend together. \nMigratieMuseumMigration11:00-17:00 museum visit12:30-13:00 workshop + concert with Hussein Rassim \nLaVallée12:00 – 14:00 briouettes\, mini-pizza’s & drinks14:00-14:30 concert with Hussein Rassim \nReservations via Ticketmaster

SUMMARY:International Mother Language Day
DESCRIPTION:In 1999\, UNESCO declared 21 February as the International Day of Home Languages. This day is closely linked to an important mission of Foyer\, namely the positive approach to diversity. The aim of this initiative is to preserve and support every home language. \nThis year\, PIM@home\, an initiative of Partners In Multilingualism (PIM)\, is launched on the occasion. \nPIM@home focuses on strengthening the various home languages and was realised with the support of Sven Gatz\, minister responsible for the promotion of multilingualism. \nThe core of the project consists of 10 short films for parents about language support in the home language. The films\, originally in Dutch\, are duplicated and narrated in 8 different languages: Classical Arabic\, Moroccan Arabic\, English\, French\, Romanian\, Spanish\, Turkish and Urdu. The material can be used in all multilingual families. In addition\, it can be used specifically when it is felt that children are weaker for language and a stronger language stimulation at home is important. \nVia this link you will find the programme with\, in addition to the material for parents\, a manual for professionals. \nAnd do watch our inspirational video! 🙂
