Will age-based discrimination be the future?

The INAMI/RIZIV informs via the Official Gazette that not every knee can still be operated on the over-50s.

Was UNIA consulted in this regard?

What are the criteria for doing it or not doing it?

Did UNIA give its approval?

As Foyer, we are sensitive to discriminations that people of foreign origin are victims of, but we are equally sensitive to discriminations that go back to age. As we are in LGBTQ discriminations, and others.

One sets a door ajar that could sooner or later become an open door when one starts making discriminations in healthcare based on age. As if every person at a certain age experiences their age in the same way.

And even if that perception were subjective, extreme caution should still be the rule… Because doesn’t the risk now become that those who can afford surgical intervention will get it taken care of… and those who can’t… will be left with a broken knee?
