What does “for” mean in “Molenbeek for Brussels 2030”?

Johan Leman, 23 April 2024

Rest assured, this will be my last blog post regarding “Molenbeek for Brussels 2030.” Like many others in Molenbeek’s community organizations, I don’t want it to seem like Foyer is opposed to a project like “Molenbeek for Brussels 2030”. On the contrary. We simply have some questions. I’ll limit myself to two questions: 1. What does “for” mean in the slogan “Molenbeek for Brussels 2030”? Does it mean that Molenbeek is an alibi to resubmit a proposal to Europe for Brussels? Or is it related to the fact that Europe wants to highlight small cities and that Molenbeek sounds better as a small city than Brussels? Or is it really fundamentally for Molenbeek? 2. If it’s for Molenbeek, shouldn’t it be the Molenbeekois and their associations who should be fully involved in the project first? Is it possible that there are increasingly misunderstandings about what the expression “Molenbeek for Brussels 2030” means?

These are my two questions… and in the meantime, we hope for success. It would be a shame if the project failed due to a poor approach. And from now on… my blog will no longer address this topic or my questions.
