Climate Change and Migrations

Johan Leman, 22 October 2024

According to the World Bank, it is expected that by 2050, 216 million climate refugees will leave their countries. Not only will droughts or floods be the cause, but also the interethnic conflicts that will follow. The most affected regions are expected to be Sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia.

It is evident that this should be a concern not only for the West but also for China, India, and Russia, as well as other countries. This is not about spreading panic, but it seems time for Europe, like other parts of the world, to realize that a few expensive hubs in some neighboring countries will not be enough to solve the problem.
